About Us

Road Accident Prevention Network Centre (RAPNEC) was established by CAC under the Corporate and allied matters act 1990 under the law of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. It is an independent, nonprofit, and non-governmental organization committed to improving road safety cultures and emergency medicalcare responses in Nigeria through advocacies and grassroot sensitization.

RAPNEC was born out of the need to arrest the rising increase of Road Traffic Crashes because of vehicular activities, expansion, and construction of additional road network across the country.

It is important to note that majority of the road traffic deaths and serious injuries on our roads are avoidable and preventable, and despite the interventions of major road safety agencies such as FRSC, VIO and FERMA, the situation remains a major public health and developmental problem in urban areas that has broad social and economic consequences.

Our organization is also involved in major road safety innovations, that is on ground program intervention with strong advocay of 50% speed reduction in urban cities and 30% reduction in public settlements schools and market environments. We operate and concentrate on crash preventions and post- crash response to reduce deaths and injuries especially among vulnerable persons and groups to make positive impact on public health and economy.

RAPNEC overtime has strengthened her institutional capacities and are in collaboration with major international organization affiliated with road safety matters such as, (iRAP) etc to further support efforts to improve road safety globally and in Nigeria, to provide as appropriate support to meet the goals of the Decade of Action on Road Safety 2021-2030.

Recently, RAPNEC was appointed as the lead NGO in Nigeria by the UN and the Global Alliance for NGOs to hand over the Global Plan for the Decade of Action on Road Safety 2021-2030 to the Government of Nigeria. This Global Plan has been developed by the World Health Organization and the United Nations Regional Commissions, in cooperation with partners in the United Nations Road Safety Collaboration and other stakeholders, as a guiding document to support the the implementation of the Decade of Action 2021-2030 and its objectives.
