Press Release: Urgent Call to Action to Curb One-Way Driving on Airport Road

The Road Accident Prevention Network Center (RAPNEC) is alarmed by the increasing number of accidents along Airport Road in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), primarily caused by one-way driving. This reckless behavior is claiming lives and properties daily, and it’s imperative that critical stakeholders take immediate action.
The Situation
One-way driving has become a persistent menace on Airport Road, putting the lives of innocent road users at risk. Despite the presence of traffic signs and markings, some drivers continue to disregard the law, driving against traffic and causing chaos.
The Consequences
The consequences of one-way driving are severe:
- Loss of lives: Innocent road users, including drivers, passengers, and pedestrians, are being killed or injured in accidents caused by one-way driving.
- Damage to properties: Vehicles and other properties are being damaged or destroyed in these accidents, resulting in significant financial losses.
- Traffic congestion: One-way driving often leads to traffic congestion, causing frustration and delays for other road users.
Call to Action
RAPNEC is calling on critical stakeholders, including:
- The Nigeria Police Force (NPF)
- The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC)
- The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA)
to take immediate action to curb one-way driving on Airport Road.
Recommended Measures
To address this issue, RAPNEC recommends the following measures:
- Increased enforcement: The police and FRSC should increase their presence on Airport Road and enforce traffic laws, imposing severe penalties on offenders.
- Public awareness campaigns: The FCTA and other stakeholders should launch public awareness campaigns to educate drivers about the dangers of one-way driving and the importance of obeying traffic laws.
- Infrastructure improvement: The FCTA should consider improving the infrastructure on Airport Road, including the installation of more traffic signs and markings, to reduce the incidence of one-way driving.
Conclusion
The Road Accident Prevention Network Center is committed to reducing road accidents and promoting road safety in Nigeria. We urge all stakeholders to take this issue seriously and work together to curb one-way driving on Airport Road.
Together, we can make our roads safer and prevent unnecessary loss of lives and properties.
